Reactive dyes, also called reactive dyes. A type of dye that reacts with the fiber in dyeing. These dyes contain the groups that can react with the fibers, dye the dye and the fiber reaction, the formation of covalent bond between the two, to become a whole, to improve the fastness to washing and rubbing fastness. Reactive dyes are a new type of dyes.

According to the difference of active groups, reactive dyes can be divided into two categories. Symmetrical three type, its general formula is:

Medium d is the mother dye. In these reactive dyes, the chemical properties of active chlorine atoms are more active. In dyeing, chlorine atoms are replaced by cellulose fibers in alkaline media, and become leaving groups. The reaction between dyes and cellulose fibers belongs to the nucleophilic substitution reaction of double molecules ( see substitution reaction ).

The active group of the reactive dyes of the ethylene sulfone type is the sulfated ester of the ethylene sulfone group ( d - so2ch = CH2 ) or - hydroxylysine. In the dyeing process, the - - sulfone sulfate reacts with the cellulose fiber to form a covalent bond through the elimination of the reaction to form the ethylene sulfone group in the alkaline medium.

The two kinds of reactive dyes are the main active dyes in the world. In order to improve the fixation rate of reactive dyes, two active groups were introduced in dye molecules in recent years, called reactive dyes. The varieties of protein fibers ( such as silk, wool and other fibers ) are also developed in addition to the variety of cellulose fibers used in reactive dyes.
